The advantages and disfavours of the distinct heating boiler forms
There are a number of kinds of Gas Central Heating Systems on the market nowadays. A central heating boiler, heating radiator and pipework are common components in many of these Gas Central Heating Systems, they are simple in plumbing terms.
Across the majority of Northern Europe the climate is not warm enough to warrant air conditioning. In fact, a decent central heating system is a necessity in these regions, and due to this, a majority of new houses have a Gas Central Heating system.
As autumn fades and chilly winds begin to blow, householders turn to their Gas Central Heating for warmth and comfort. While blizzards rage on outside, you can be safe and warm on the inside. So you want to be sure that your Central Heating System is dependable. Additionally, your heating system should also be safe, user-friendly and durable.
Vented (or pumped) and Sealed heating systems are the two most common types available.
Pumped/vented systems are the ones that many homes have and they have the most components resulting in potentially higher maintenance costs. The pumped/vented Gas Central Heating Systems have an expansion tank and a feed. The hot water tank performs two functions; firstly, supply hot water to your house, and secondly, provides heat to the heating radiators. The tank makes way for any water expansion that is caused by the heating process. The tank is positioned at the point of maximum height, usually in the attic area to create water pressure. The hot water tank has two main functions; to heat the house and and provide hot water for washing.
A lot of older homes have pumped/vented Central Heating systems.
A slightly newer, more up-to-date gas boiler that many people are choosing over a pumped/vented Central Heating system is a sealed system. As the name indicates, a sealed system is a an enclosed system therefore no expansion water tanks are needed. This unvented system eliminates water tanks and loft plumbing, thus giving a number of advantages.
- Frozen loft pipes are no longer a problem.
- loft space is freed up and pipe maintenance is reduced.
- The risk of leakage is decreased as there are fewer pipes and the system is less complex.
- The risk of airlocks, corrosion and sludge are reduced because there won’t be any air being taken down into the system through the open holes as the system is sealed.
- The mains water supply can flush the sealed system if needed.
All the required controls and safety devices are incorporated into the sealed Gas Central Heating systems. The water for the system is provided directly from the main water pipe of the house. The mains water goes straight to the sealed system.
A pressure vessel containing compressed gas, which is kept separate from the sealed system by a diaphragm, is used to allow any pressure variations. A safety valve will let water to escape or fill up depending on whether the pressure becomes too high or too low respectively.
Central Heating Systems are a worthwhile investment as they have the lowest cost of performance when compared with other types of heating. They also provide you with complete control which is much more than other heating systems can say about themselves.
